First, the client will need to get her returns filed. IRS files w/o any deductions, the amount owed could be reduced by just filing.
Second, call the IRS number on the notice and inform the Agent that the returns are being completed. They will usually give me 30 days to send them in. Certify Mail so you have a signature. Inform the Agent that the amount owed will be different or less. To stop the garnishment she will need to set up a payment plan with the IRS.
This should reduce the clients stress.
