On the heels of the IRS representation conference that covered ethics I began thinking about the initial consultation, in this example a married couple. Eric, or anybody else do you get both parties in for the consult or rely on both coming into sign the POA to make sure both spouses know what’s going on

I am new to this but it seems to me that you could have a conflict in representing both parties unless you get a letter from each of them as Eric suggested letting them know the situation and what could come up.

I prefer to have both spouses in. If only one comes in that is fine, but I do need to meet with both before we actually file whatever we are filing.

Thanks I just wanted to confirm my Thought process. As a practitioner, I really want to confirm that both spouses know the gravity of the situation.
