BlockedJust thought the members here might like an introductory thread where we can all post our background/location/specialty.
I’m Rachel Kennerly. I’m a CPA/MBA in Texas. I have worked in public accounting since 2005. I’ve worked on a couple of OIC’s in the 12 years, but I’d like to build up more expertise in this area and grow my practice.
I also specialize in tax/accounting for the cannabis industry where the tax rules are pretty onerous. Cannabis businesses are 6 times more likely to be audited by the IRS than other industries, so if you need any help with a cannabis client let me know. Also if you have cannabis clients, and you’re not currently providing tax/accounting services for this industry I’d love the referrals.

BlockedHi Rachel, love to talk to you. I do not currently have any 420 clients but I am in the epicenter in Colorado so I would love to have a resource to discuss issues with if some one requests my services. Also I will share any insight you would like into the IRS from the perspective of a long time employee or into the forensics accounting world. Call me when you get some down time (like that every happens for any of us). 720 328-8624 or email me direct at Financial.Forensics.LLC@Comcast.Net

ParticipantHello all,
My name is Jim Wade and I am a tax attorney in Maine. I handle both tax resolution and bankruptcy matters. I used to be a CPA so I still keep a stable of tax preparation and planning clients. I outsource bookkeeping and payroll. My email is jwade@jdwadelaw.com and I look forward to discussing some interesting tax cases with everyone here.
Sincerely,
Jim

ParticipantHi, I too am in Colorado, Breckenridge to be specific. I choose skiing over money, lol. I’ve been a CPA for 40 years. I’m limiting my practice now to tax rep work. I’ve done several offers, CNC’s, lots of audit support, and some forensic work. My background is tax, I was a manager early in my career at Deloitte in both Detroit and Ann Arbor. I purchased two CPA practices, sold one, started a mortgage brokerage (Dodd-Frank killed it), and now I’m doing the tax rep biz. I get bored easily I guess. My website is powertaxrep.com. I’m happy to help and participate any way I can. I LOVE doing tax rep work. Eric has helped me immensely, I don’t know how I could do this otherwise.

ParticipantHi Everyone: My name is Dan Gibson. I’ve been in practice over 35 years and have worked as an employee, now a partner, with EisnerAmper LLP (in NJ) for 30 of those years. I’m a generalist in tax compliance and work mostly with closely-held businesses. I was introduced to tax resolution about 16 years ago and have done a fair amount of work in this area. I really started to gear up the knowledge base about 5 years ago by following people like Eric, LG Brooks, Larry Lawler, Howard Levy, Bob MacKenzie, Steve Klitzner and Dan Pilla, who I consider to be the Jedi Knights of the Tax Resolution World. Also, I’ve taken advantage of the NAEA’s NTPI Fellow program, ASTPS’s Tax Resolution Boot Camp/Certified Tax Resolution Specialist Program and the NATP’s Conferences (which LG, Steve and Eric participate in). Just a wealth of knowledge in all the above. Looking forward to checking into the forums and learning a ton more from all of you. My email is daniel.gibson@eisneramper.com.

ParticipantHello everyone.
I’m Safie Russell, based in Long Island in NY. I’ve been in public accounting for 16 years and finally broke down and got my CPA license in 2016. I’m also an EA and have my Masters in Taxation. I started looking into tax resolution about 2 years ago and am loving it. I have built a small practice and am continuing to expand, focusing on resolution and the real estate industry. Let me know if I can be of assistance! If you’re in the NYC/Long Island area, let’s connect.October 20, 2018 at 7:26 pm #10688Jean F
BlockedHello everyone!
My name is Jean Falb and I live in the great state of Washington, you know the “other” Washington. I have been preparing taxes for about 15 years, just left a CPA firm I was with for about 9 years. Been an Enrolled Agent since 2013 and generally have done business and personal returns. Some installment agreements and one OIC but see the potential of this niche and hope I can use this material to start my practice. How are any/all of you liking this program? I am on day 3 and overwhelmed by the amount of quality content. Also, are those of you that are doing this tax resolution service, are you able to do this service remotely? I live in a rural area so not sure about the in person meetings and wondering if that will be problematic. OK I turned this intro into questions…………Thanks in advance

BlockedHi, I’m Samantha McGrath. Originally from NYC, I have been outside Philadelphia for 16 years now. I’m a CPA, worked in big and public small accounting firms, till in mid 2014 I went on my own. My husband works with me in tax season. I do taxes, bookkeeping and payroll, with some rep work, not a lot. I had no training in rep work, so it was pretty painful to deal with “basic” issues. I’m looking forward to learning more.
The bigger reason I joined is that I thought when I went on my own that I would finally be happy. But I feel like I could work all the time and much of the work is not valued by the client, and they don’t want to pay for it. I’ve been listening to Eric’s blog a lot and I find it interesting. I thought, why not, I will give it a try.

BlockedMy story is a bit different, but I too thought going on my own was the answer. I see the potential of this program, am excited to learn something new and am scared to death!
I don’t want to be a deadline junkie where they reset every day, week, month, quarter and year! Listen to “how to 10X your business” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPIIJKXwcas&t=1198s. It talks a lot about how we view pricing, how customers view value and asks the hard question – what do you want?
I am off to do some soul searching……….
Welcome to the family.October 31, 2018 at 6:47 pm #10814Terrence Power
ParticipantJean F, I too work in a somewhat rural area. I love Eric’s program and there is no way I could offer the quality of service that I do without this. I don’t think geographic location has much bearing on business. Most of my clients have already dealt with tax resolution companies from of state and have been burned. It helps being truly paperless and I use Canopy and Google Drive a lot. I have a lot of clients I’ve never met from all over the place. I think the only drawback of not meeting tax resolution clients is you won’t get the hugs and kisses that come from happy clients! Seriously, I’ve never seen a happier client than one you saved from the IRS. I had a client hugging me like crazy the other day. That NEVER happens with 1040 work.

BlockedGood to know! Thanks for your feedback. Are you using the marketing program that Eric uses? I need to get started blogging. What is the primary way you acquire clients?
ThanksNovember 12, 2018 at 12:24 pm #10919samantha
BlockedHi Jean. I signed up for Active Rain but I did not use it yet. I’m not a writer and it seems very intimidating to me. The extent of my online marketing thus far has been sharing an article on Linked In. I just finished the master classes for collections and payroll taxes so I need to listen to the classes on the $100K challenge with the marketing ideas.
