Client is trying to close on a house and is prepared to full pay his IRS Debt. How long will it take until the lien is released? (Collections book says “generally 30 days”). Any way to expedite this process? What is best / fastest way to handle this to satisfy the lender? Will a lien release letter be mailed to the taxpayer? I want to inform the taxpayer what to expect and how long it will take. thanks

I was able to get one recently in about ten days. I believe there may be a statutory deadline where the lien has to be released after payment in full, so they take this one pretty seriously. This amazed me as a lot of departments at the IRS are still impacted by COVID-19. They can expedite for real estate closings and fax you a confirmation.
