Sent a 1040 superseding return with a receipt return request to IRS in KS about 3 wks ago.
Postal tracking showed it was received but still haven’t got the green signature card back from IRS. Since they have to have it by the May 17th due date, can I rely on the postal service tracking saying it was received? Don’t know who to call at IRS to confirm that the return was received by 5/17. Thanks for any guidance.

John, I believe the tracking showing you mailed it before they processed the original or contacted you is sufficient, and honestly about the best you can do these days.

Thanks Eric, would it help or hurt if I send in 4868s before the 17th also just to cover all bases?
